: : : : : : : what is meant by "A little of what you fancy does you good"?

: : : : : : What it means to me: if I want chocolate, I should have a little.

: : : : :
: : : : : It's the title of a song made famous by the music-hall star Marie Lloyd, who lived 1870-1922 and whose speciality was "saucy" songs.

: : : : So it's about chocolate sauce?

: : : As they say at the bratwurst factory, this is the sauce age. We Americans don't know any music hall names pre-Bea Lillie, who appeared on TV many times.

: : You saw Bea Lillie on TV? I'm in awe. But then, I never saw Sid Caesar on TV, either. SS

: I know it has been a long time since I did classics at school, but I do remember Augustus, Tiberius, Nero, Caligula, Claudius and so on, but I don't remember hearing of a 'Sid Caesar'. He must have been one of the shorter-reigning emperors.

: DFG

I guess you'd call his reign short, but it was certainly memorable (they tell me). He was one of the crazy ones. Unlike most emperors he had a sort of second banana. SS
