circle gets the square

This was a common phrase on the game show "The Hollywood Squares." As I recall, it was usually what was said by the host when the X player missed his question so that the O player (circle) was awarded the "square" that the X player was trying to win on the tic-tac-toe board of celebrities. In the opposite situation, he would say "X gets the square".
