: I did not see "Fame." Did I miss something? It sounds as though the quotation was made up, but the huge malapropism in the second line naturally reminds one of Mrs. Malaprop in Sheridan's "The Rivals." SS

I agree. It sounds as if someone had a good time writing a little parody of pompous period drama. Did you miss something? Depends. "Fame," itself a pretentious period drama, is not a very good movie, and the plot takes utterly predictable directions, but I have a soft spot for it. Some good music and dance numbers.
