: : What is origin "to hell and back"? Does it relate to Jesus desending into hell before rising on the third day?

: I'm not sure of the origin, but I remember years ago that the journey was personified as Helen Back. If you want to borrow money, go to Helen Back. SR

It's a well-traveled road. Orpheus descended into the underworld to rescue his doomed Euridyce. Many cultures have a myth relating to a descent into the land of the dead and a return. Jesus had a better result, but Orpheus gets the better aria.
