: I've heard the phrase "make mention" or "made mention" many time lately? While I believe this is
: using the word mention incorrectly, several individuals that I've asked after making the statement,
: indicate that was the way they were taught to use it?
: It sounds very silly to me, anyone have any ideas on this?

I'm at a loss as to why you find it silly in that it means what it says and says what it means. It's comparable with the phrase 'open the door' which means 'open the door' and should you want someone to open the door you would probably not be misunderstood if you said 'open the door'. Does that help to clarify matters.
