And still another: (from Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable)- "a Thracian dog" referring to the forever carping critic Zoilus of Ancient Greece:
"Like curs, our critics haunt the poet's feast,

To snarl in want, and grumble o'er their prey."
