Hoop and a Hollar

I don't know whether it's actually American in origin, but this expression is often used to refer to a particular style of preaching that hails from Black preachers in the USA and that a number of young preachers in the UK, such as myself, often use. The "hollar" speaks for itself. The "whoop", however, refers specifically to the noise the preacher makes when he breathes in before making his "hollar", such as in the video clip found at www.phillipthomas.org
