I am researching the origin of the phrase "shoot in the left eye." Sadly, I have not come up with anything definitive, yet. Anyone with an idea would be greatly appreciated.
I first encountered the phase from a colorful character I met when fishing on the Clearwater river in northern Idaho. He was pretty worked up about a political conversation we were having, when he then threatened to "shoot out the left eye" of this particular person. I wanted to ask at the time, but felt better to leave.
On the web, there is a reference using this phrase in a poem. It is used in a similar way.
Thanks for you help, Dave
