: Please give me some help with this expression that is used in the Economist's obituary (Jan. 8, 2005): "[Susan Sontag] wrote clearly and well, in short words and sort sentences that were blessedly free of the tech-tosh that passes for English in most haunts of intellectualism."

An alliterative coinage of two simple parts, namely "tech" - pertaining to things technical, clearly here with a sense of the rarified or abstruse - and "tosh" - a slightly old-fashioned term for nonsense or verbal rubbish. An almost exact synonym would be "gobbledegook" and "jargon" is close too.
