: : : please, can anyone tell me the originis of the phrases:

: : : Happy Holidays

: : : and Seasons Greetings

: : : thank you!

: : Good question. But I haven't been able to find the answer yet. These phrases would, I am guessing, been created when Christmas went secular.

: The old phrase, Merry Christmas, has become politically incorrect in the States. Decorations in stores and public places now are "Holidays" oriented. There seems to be a extensive lack of tolerance that value loads these phrases and brings forth this very flat language.

There is much discussion here in the US lately on the secularisation of Christmas with lawsuits and legal rulings on the use ot the nativity scene in public places, the singing of traditional Christmas carols etc in public schools. Rather than enjoying the season for what it is and has been, some are attempting to make it what they want it to be. 'Tis a pity since 'tis the season.
