: : : : : : : : Lewis: Well, why not? I for one was pleased to learn of another intriguing site to feed my insatiable lust for neologisms--DH

: : : : : : : I'm just curious, Dale. As one who lusts for juicy young neologisms, would you describe yourself as an "encyclopaedophile"?

: : : : : : I don't understand your question. This site is for the discussion of phrases. At least, that was the original intent.

: : : : : The Phrase Finder--An idiom can be a single word--DH

: : : : Who are you people?

: : : Trolls. If we ignore them, maybe they'll go away.

: : What a shame people had to sink to being rude again.

: : The most recent thread I've seen this morning (Monday morning here), I see that Ms Berg has again made her complaint re single words being queried in a Phrase Finder site. As I'm sure you all know, I don't often agree with Ms Berg, but this time I do. Except perhaps where a word is in fact an idiom.

: : However, having said that - this particular thread is citing some apparently relatively new 'PC' terms, some of which are phrases and all of which are substitutes for phrases. So I don't actually see it as off-topic, I do think it's interesting and relevant, and I don't think it's necessary for people to be rude about it.

: : There are other sites available where unpleasantness is considered to be clever. One thing I've always liked about this one, is that mostly people don't feel the need to sink to that rather low IQ and desperate level. ---GODDESS

: the first post was some kind of weak humour, obviously politically-motivated, what with the mention of Democratic primaries etc. The 'wise' people of the USA made their choice of world-leader and weak humour will not detract from the irony of that choice.

: I simply questioned, in forthright terms using my right to free speech, 'what the fk' that list of Top PC words and phrases - yeah right, really the apex - was doing on the site. it wasn't being discussed or explained, just listed.

: had the poster offered us more in the way of mental stimulation, I would not have had cause to ask.
: 'non same-sex marriage' - give us a break!

: a not terribly contrite

FWIW
an 'insurgent' and a 'terrorist' are different things: an 'insurgent' is a fighter who enters another country to wage war, whereas a 'terrorist' is a person who uses violence or threats of violence to create fear, usually for political ends. to call an 'insurgent' a PC word for terrorist is simple ignorance, or perhaps 'incuriosity'.

it is the coupling of weak attempts at humour and ignorance that provoke WTF? responses.
