: she's *well-placed* socially
: =she has a good social position based on her ability?
: thansk

Yes it means she has a good social position, but it doesn't necessarily mean due to ability. eg. She could be well placed socially due to a family inheritance, because her husband, relative or someone around her is well placed socially, or other reasons that often escape me. eg. Some people just seem to be part of the social set because they manage to be in the right places at the right times and/or get their pictures in the right magazines. Having said all that, she could also be well placed socially due to her own achievements or ability. ie. It could be for a variety of reasons.
