: Hello to whomever out there,
: Could anyone interpret this to me?

: ....unaffectionate lovers...hardly the stuff we like to think about when we think about but *very much the stuff * of modern New York relationship.

: ...but * we do think about the stuff very much*?

: let me know if I have it wrong...

'stuff' is a word for material, but there is a use of the word 'stuff' that means spirit or character - 'the right stuff' was a film title for example. 'the stuff of legends' - means the material from which legends arise.

'the stuff we want to think about' suggests that love-less lovers is not the material for romance - again 'stuff' is being used in the sense of paragons/source material/archetypes - a distillation of what something should be about - an essence.

'stuffing' meaning the inside contents - is related to all this.
