: Means stop acting the eejit.Anyone know
: where the word came from?

I think there's something about it in the archives.

GALLIVANTING: going to lots of places; gadding about. Origin obscure but cf. 'gallant' from Old Fr*nch 'galant.'

EEJIT: a silly person, from English 'idiot,' but less pejorative. The pronunciation 'eejit' represents an approximation of the way the letters 'd' and 'i' are pronounced in the Irish language, as in 'Dia' (god), often pronounced Jee-a.
