: : : : The article is meant to be funny or whimsical. He is talking about his son watching too much TV. But he is also talking about all the time he spends, as the father of a young child, watching children's programs.

: : : : Like when my children were little I was all excited because Maria and Louis on Sesame Street were getting married.

: : : : So when the father started wondering about things like how come Goofy the dog has a pet dog, he decided it's time to turn off the television and take the kid for a walk.

: I'm not familiar with children's TV today since my children are grown. But I am guessing that the "mouse" is Mickey Mouse, more of a movie star than a TV star. The "average bear" part refers to cartoon character Yogi Bear who is "smarter than the average bear." See:

But it seemed that this question is not answered yet -- Why the author wants to say that the TV mouse should speak more clearly? As they are going outside, what is the author's attitude towards TV play?
