In 1948 Charles Funk wrote that any country boy would know the meaning of "skin the cat" as a physical maneuver performed, I guess, by country boys. I beg to differ. He may well be right about the expression, but not that every country boy knew the maneuver. That may have been true in Mr. Funk's neck of the woods, but not in mine. SS
