: Hi all,
: I know the expression "to give sb the works" means either to give somebody lavish treatment, or to beat somebody up. However, can the sentence "Give me the works" mean "Brief me on the details," or something like that? Thanks a lot.

What "Give me the works" means probably depends on to whom it is addressed. If it is said to someone from whom you have ordered a submarine sandwich, or something else within a roll or two slices of bread, or perhaps a pizza, it means you want "everything" on or in it. But what do I know? I don't think I've ever heard it said. SS
