Not every reference ascribed to Lincoln has been researched and filed. There have been instances where he has been quoted in newspapers which, unfortunately, have been either destroyed or lost
I found one particular copy of a Connecticut paper in which the reporter, upon interviewing a foreigner who had visted the White House, made mention of a matter that , in my mind, is pure 'Lincolnian'. Neither the subject or particulars of the incident have found its way into biographical works or other lierary outlets .This simply implies that many of those utterances that became well known for their originality and color may have been first introduced in other mediums which, again, have not been preserved or recorded for posterity.
