: : : It drives me nuts when people say this! I was just wondering if anyone else felt this way.

: : Oh, this brings back that old nostalgia. I remember "lookit" from childhood. Children used to say it. I thought of it as a single (slang) word. I think it stood for "look at," as in "Look at the mouse on Mrs. Johnson's hat!"

: : I guess I'm just not as offended as you are. Cheer up, maybe the next person will be.

: Now I remember that phrase -- "look it." I can't remember if I heard it in W.Va. or on my travels. It meant "Now see here." Or "Listen."

I've never heard this before, must be an American thing is it? What exactly does it mean, 'look AT it' or something else?
