: Please tell me this phrase preceded Pink Floyd's song, "Another brick on the wall."
: Seems similar to another piece of the puzzle. Like accumulating clues to find an answer.
: But is there another way to interpret the phrase?
First off it is "in" the wall, not "on" the wall.
Big difference since interviews with the band members provide hints that the "bricks" in the wall are specific events that added to Waters' increasing isolation--"the wall"--from his fans and the world.
==All in all you were all just bricks in the wall==
I have never heard of the expression before Floyd except maybe in "The Hollow Men"--"We are the hollow men, heads filled with straw". The expression might be in that poem--I am not 100% sure though.
