: 1.Researchers found that classical music encouraged people to spend US$40 per meal. The bill comes to US$35 a head when there no music at all.
: (a head?)

: 2.Kaka hopes to play a bigger role as captain of the under-23 side that will take part in 2004 Olympic Games.
: (under-23 side? )

...a head = per person, so classical music will make 10 people spend $350, or $35 each, $35 a head, $35 per capita, which is the L@tin for "per head."

under-23 side a team consisting of players, all of whom are younger than 23 years old. Americans will use "team" much more often than "side." In the UK, "side" is more often used.
