: Could someone help explain the phrase used by movie directors at the end of a shoot: "That's a wrap". Where does this phrase come from / what did it originally refer to? Thanks!
American Heritage says 'a wrap' is the completion of filming on a movie. It makes sense to me since 'to wrap' can generally mean to finish doing something.
