Are you sure that "Steely Dan" was heavy metal?
(or is it some other Burroughs reference?)

I wonder whether the Quicksilver Messenger Service or Steppenwulfram thought themselves HM...

You never hear about the 'light metal' bands - there could have been bands doing LM - I suppose Hydrogeneration X, the Chemicaluminium Brothers, Tin Machine or Zinc Zinc (Bottle) Top might be included.
