FOOTBALLERS AND RUGBY PLAYERS

Does anyone know the saying about football being a game for gentlemen played by hooligans and rugby being a game for hooligans played by gentlemen?

I'm not sure if I've got it the right way round - could be that football is for hooligans played by gentlemen and rugby is for gentlemen but is played by hooligans.

I need to know the correct version and where it originated from to settle a family argument that's been ongoing since Dec 23!!
