: In "The Sweet Smell of Success", J. J. Hunsecker (Burt Lancaster) says to Sidney Falco (Tony Curtis), "My right hand hasn't seen my left hand in thirty years." Any idea what this claim might mean? It has been puzzling me for years.

: Well, thanks in advance for any ideas.

Without benefit of having seen the movie, I venture a guess that the writer had in mind the common expression "The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing," meaning that a person's or organization's behavior is contradictory or inconsistent.
