: What ever does this mean?

Well, "self-importance" means the quality of being puffed up about one's own imaginary greatness or high standing. People who strut and brag are self-important. The phrase as a whole may have been written or spoken by somebody who was thinking of the classic curse "I hope you fry in hell"--that is, may you be severely punished.
