The communist side. Wait, wait, follow the reasoning:
The "spear" or hunter side makes sense in the context; mayhaps the plow side? Ah, the hammer and sickle would be perfect; builder of shelter, provider of bread. Therefore, distaff and communists.
Women are the distaff side because they held the distaff, while not a well-known symbol of domesticity, eloquently symbolic none the less for that.
