: Hello, I was just wondering whether any one might know the meaning of the phrase, "devil take the hindmost". Thanks in advance for any information.

Hindmost means the furthest back. It's a cry of encouragement or exhortation, meaning "may the slowest/most reluctant among us be damned." It's similar in nature to a child's shout, such as "Let's all jump in the pool - last one in's a rotten egg!"
