People here use it in conversation when we really admire something, such as "Did you see her new hat? Now, that's just as cute as a bug's ear." Does anyone else out there know where this might have come from?

: In a previous discussion (you can type "cute" in the search box and find a lot of answers) the earliest reference noting this saying was in 1930, but I haven't found a regional identification yet.

I've never heard "cute as a bug's ear", but here in Alabama we do refer to something or someone being "cute as a speckled pup".
