: There's a saying 'third time lucky'. My own theory about this is that it's not luck that makes a third attempt successful, but rather a matter of learning from past errors. Take for example aiming at a target, the first shot may miss to the left, the second correction shot may miss to the right, but now the knowledge of the correct adjustment to make is known and the third shot hits its intended target (not by luck but by knowledge learned from the previous two shots.)

Or "third time's the charm."
