: The dame sashayed into my office on two of the most beautiful "gams" I have ever seen... I know they're legs. You know they're legs. What is the derivation of "gams"?
Webster's has "gamba" as Italian for "leg".
Main Entry: 1gam
Pronunciation: 'gam
Function: noun
Etymology: probably ultimately from Lingua Franca gamba leg, from
Italian, from Late Latin
Date: 1781
There is an instrument called the "viola de gamba"---violin of the legs---which is sorta like a cello which is played between the legs.
