: does anyone know where the phrase/salutation "yours truly" comes from? how it may have originated? the reason I ask is because in my mind it's like making a personal statement about your relationship with a person that is special to you. but i've seen it written as kind of a social good bye, or conclusion to a letter/email. just wondering ;-)

I haven't found an origin yet. Anyone have any ideas?
