: When Nietzsche said "God is dead," he meant, more or less, that people's beliefs and values were becoming more secular. I typed "nietzsche god dead" into Google and got lots of links. The one below connects with an interpretation of the saying. If the link disappears because somebody posts a follow-up, this is the URL:

I thought it meant the belief that there was once a Creator God (thus neatly explaining how the universe came to be) but He died. When was it that the concept "God is dead" got a lot of media attention? 60s or 70s?
