Re: Catch wind ofPosted by Baceseras on September 28, 2007 In Reply to: Catch wind of posted by Brent Johnson on September 28, 2007 : What is the origin of the phrase "catch wind of"? It means "find out" and sounds doggy. Example sentence: When women catch wind of a sale they rush for it like rioters at a soccer match. Well, what more do you want for an origin? It means to get knowledge of something by any means as a dog picks up a scent. |
