Two comments. It's not the same thing, but nowadays you often hear jocular comments like, "It's like looking for Waldo." On a recent episode of NCIS (American TV action series),
Ziva: It's like looking for a pin in a haystack.
DiNozzo: It's needle in a haystack, Ziva, NEEDLE!
Ziva: So? Are needles harder to find than pins?
