Re: Nutty as a cuckoo clockPosted by RRC on November 08, 2005 In Reply to: Nutty as a cuckoo clock posted by Rachel on November 08, 2005 : has anyone heard of the phrase nutty as a cuckoo clock? I'd like to know how that one came about. "Nutty as a cuckoo", yes. But Googling the exact phrase "as a cuckoo clock" reveals only one "crazy" hit, most of the rest that are idiomatic refer to "dependable", "reliable", "mechanical", etc. I think you've run into someone who's mixing their metaphors.
