Re: HeartbreakersPosted by Bruce Kahl on May 28, 2004 In Reply to: Heartbreakers posted by Anti on May 28, 2004 : Hi! I'm translating a movie titled "heartbreakers" and I have some unsolved phrases. : 1) A guy sells stolen cars and cheats his wife. So she sues him and her attorney knows about his business and threats him to reveal it. So she says ironically "What was it again Mr Cummano? Random reposessions?" : What could this "Random reposessions" mean in this context? : : What are "ironclad prenups"? : Thank you all for helping me!:) "Random reposessions" is a euphemism for stealing cars. A "prenup" is an abbreviation for "prenuptial agreement" which is a contract between two people about to wed that spells out how assets will be distributed in the event of divorce or death. "Ironclad" is an adjective used to describe how strongly worded the document is. It means there is no getting around the details of the agreement no matter what happens. |
