Cat's don't provide comfort???

I don't know this one either. But perhaps the inference is that cat's don't care. Some people think that, although I don't personally agree. But it is popularly believed that cat's are entirely independent.

So if the officer was upset, maybe the inference is that there's no point getting a cat for comfort. I dunno. Just guessing, cos I've never heard this one before.
