: : : : Sheffield is, or more often was, called the Steel City. That originated in the days when Sheffield made the world's cutlery. The other UK city I know best - Birmingham, is known by local wags as the Celestial City. They are strong on irony down there.

Derry/Londonderry in NI is known as 'stroke' city.
