Is this a common phrase in the UK also? Can anyone help with its origin and similar phrases with similar meaning? This is a seventh grade class discussion, and again, we do appreciate this site!

The UK version of this phrase was normally simply just "carpeted" or "to carpet someone". It's fallen entirely into disuse, and nowadays one would never hear or see it on speech or text.
