Re: Food for thoughtPosted by Word Camel on November 09, 2002 In Reply to: Re: My fave fight posted by Food Police on November 09, 2002 : : : : Just in case some of you don't know it, the link below takes you to the Googlefight site, where a not particularly scientific comparison of www "hits" between two words or phrases can be simply carried out. : : : : I give you the results of a few fights I idly initiated, some of which are more encouraging than others. : : : : : Big Mac = 1,580,000 results. Whopper = 65,500 results. Winner:- BIG MAC : : : : Love = 76,800,000 results. Lust = 1,440,000 results. Winner:- LOVE (NB Sex would have won this, but had a hgeadache at the time) : : : : George Bush = 2,180,000 results. Chimpanzee = 117,000 results. Winner:- Your guess is as good as mine. : : : : Have fun. : : : Somewhat to the point for this forum, "popular" edged out "correct" 19,800,000 to 15,900,000. : : : This pastime inspires an idea for a new game, Googletie (long "i," if you please, and if that's difficult, let's call the whole thing Googledraw). In Googlewhacking one seeks two words that yield just one hit. In Googletieing one would seek two words or phrases that yield equal numbers of hits. : : Not indicative of who won the fight here on Election Day. : : I was reading an article about the crisis of McDonalds in The NY Times and was surprised to learn that the quality of the meat used in their burgers is far and away much higher quality than what most of us have access to in the supermarket. And still it tastes as it does... Makes you think. Sorry I can't put the URL up. The NYT database seems to be down. Camel |
